Ribbon cutting ceremony opens new facilities at Fort Leavenworth

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to officially open a Readiness Center for the 35th Infantry Division headquarters and transient training barracks at the Mission Training Complex at Fort Leavenworth on March 25.

Weather conditions for the coming six-day period indicate a significant threat for wildland fires in Kansas. Due to this potential, Governor Laura Kelly has issued a State of Disaster Emergency for the state.

Secretary of the Air Force Visits Kansas Air National Guard’s 184th Wing

Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall III visited the Kansas Air National Guard’s 184th Wing, based at McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita, April 3. Kendall was greeted by U.S. Senator Jerry Moran and Kansas National Guard leadership, then given a tour of the 184th Wing and briefed on its mission. Kendall had an opportunity to meet and speak to Airmen conducting missions for the 184th Cyber Operations Group, 184th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group and the 134th Air Control Squadron.

Governor Kelly presents awards to four Kansas National Guardsmen

Governor Laura Kelly presented awards to four Kansas National Guardsmen in a special ceremony March 18 in the Capitol rotunda. The awards were earned in prior years, but the presentations were delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Governor issues State of Disaster Emergency for wildland fires

Gov. Laura Kelly issued a verbal declaration of a State of Disaster Emergency today, due to the increased fire danger across the state today and into the week. Kansas is in a Red Flag Warning which means warm temperatures, very low humidities, and stronger winds are expected to combine to produce an increased risk of fire danger.  All outdoor burning should be avoided today.

Range control personnel keep wildland fires in check with controlled burns

When the weather is hot and dry in Kansas, the potential for wildland fires increases. When the wind is brisk, as is often the case, such fires spread rapidly, destroying valuable farmland, homes, and infrastructure.
