Charles D. Martin

Charles D. Martin, 85, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, at a Topeka hospital.

He was born Dec. 28, 1934, at Junction City, the son of William A. and Marie A. Otnas Martin. He lived in Ogden until his first grade year, when he and his family moved to the Emmett community. He graduated from Emmett High School in 1952.

Mr. Martin served in the Kansas Army National Guard, where he was a mechanic until his retirement. He had lived in St. Marys, moving to Maple Hill, where he lived many years before moving to the Meriden community. Charles was a member of the Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Meriden Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion at Ozawkie.

He was united in marriage to Verna Edwards on Sept. 2, 1961, at Emmett. She survives of the home.

     Other survivors include three sons, William, Daniel (Arlene) and Wayne Martin; two daughters, Anna Martin and Lisa (Terry) Boyle; a brother, John (Agnes) Martin; his sister, Marcia (Gary) Ross; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A prayer service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Inurnment will be in St. Clere Cemetery, Emmett. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.

Due to COVID-19, masks and social distancing are required. There will be limited seating, the service is primarily for the family.
