Dennis V. Lewis

Retired Sgt. 1st Class Dennis V. Lewis, Americus, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Newman Regional Health, Emporia. He was 72.

Dennis was born March 20, 1947, in Emporia, the son of Harding and Lois Koppenhaver Lewis. He married Beverly K. Albrecht on May 27, 1997, in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives.

Surviving family members include his wife, Beverly K. Lewis, Americus; step-daughters, Kimberlee (Adam) Smith, Allen; Gwendolyn Kinsey, Emporia; step-grandchildren, Skylar Lamb, Jade Smith, Emily Cyphers, and Vance Kinsey; brother Kirk Lewis, Americus.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Terry Allen Lewis.

Dennis worked for Modine and retired from the Kansas Army National Guard. In 1968, he served in the United States Navy during Vietnam. He was a member of Lowry-Funston Post #1980 and Moreland Edmunds Clayton Thompson American Legion Post #389, Allen.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. The family will greet family and friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Waverly Cemetery with military honors by Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion. The family request you dress casual with your favorite sports team for the service.
