Donald E. Moyer, Jr,

Retired Sgt. 1st Class Donald E. Moyer, Jr, 68, of Alta Vista, Kansas, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019, surrounded by his family, ending his fight with cancer.

He was born Oct. 21, 1951, at Altoona, Pennsylvania, the son of Donald and Ruth (Garman) Moyer, Sr. He lived in Kansas most of his life. He served 38 wonderful years in the military and gracefully retired in 2009. Don enjoyed fishing, Steelers football, cruising, and visiting with his friends. He loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, step-father Elven MeDaise, Sr., and his son Travis Moyer.

Don is survived by his wife Tammie, whom he shared 23 wonderful years; children: Donald E. Moyer III and wife Teresa, Sandy Wirkowski and husband Ken, Victoria Moyer, and Chris Moyer; mother, Ruth MeDasie: father-in-law Warren Powell; brothers, Marty Moyer and wife Dot and Elvin MeDasie, Jr.; and sister Doreen Stell and husband Rex. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kenny Wirkowski, Joshua Wirkowski, Adam Ragoschke, Timothy Moyer, Brandon Moyer, Alisha Collins and husband Dustin, and Stefani Moyer; and great grandchild Atticus Tanner.

At his request, Don was cremated. A memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17 at Alta Vista Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends Helping Friends and may be sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
