19-073 Kansas National Guard supports Veterans Day events across Kansas

Soldiers and Airmen of the Kansas National Guard will be supporting a number of Veterans Day events across the state.
Events scheduled for Nov. 6
Emporia Command Sgt. Maj. Steve Harmon will visit classes at Sacred Heart Catholic School, 102 Cottonwood St.
Events scheduled for Nov. 7
Overland Park Soldiers of Detachment 3, 731st Composite Truck Company will have a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain Vehicle on static display beginning at 11 a.m. as part of the Sprint/City of Overland Park Veterans Day Celebration on the Sprint campus, 117th and Nall. The 1st Battalion, 108th Aviation will also have a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter on static display.
Wichita Brig. Gen. David Weishaar, assistant adjutant general Air, will be the keynote speaker at the Wichita Public Schools Veterans Day ceremony at the Century II Expo Hall, beginning at 10 a.m. Lt. Col. Kelly Ihme, 161st Intelligence Squadron will be speaking at McCollom Elementary, 1201 N. Waddington Ave., at 2 p.m.
Winchester Capt. Nick Carlson will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at Jefferson County North High School, 302 5th St. The ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m.
Events scheduled for Nov. 8
Cherokee Maj. Drew Polen will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at Southeast High School, 126 W 4th Highway, beginning at 10 a.m.
Rose Hill Maj. Keith Marshall will participate in the annual Rose Hill Middle School Veterans Day assembly.
Wichita Maj. Gen. Lee Tafanelli, the adjutant general, will be the keynote speaker at the Veterans Coming Home awards banquet. The banquet will being at 4:30 p.m. at Holiday Inn East, Kellogg and Rock Road.
Events scheduled for Nov. 9
Emporia Soldiers of Company A, 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 137th Infantry and the Recruiting and Retention Battalion will support the Emporia Freedom Fest event.
Hays Brig. Gen. David Weishaar, Lt. Col. Mark Mullinax, and Soldiers of the 997th Brigade Support Battalion and 731st Composite Truck Company will support the Fort Hays State University Military Day and football game vs Northwest Missouri State, with a vehicle display and PAC 75 Howitzer at Lewis Field Stadium, 2nd & Elm, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Lawrence The 190th Air Refueling Wing, Kansas Air National Guard, will conduct a KC-135 Stratotanker flyover of the Veterans Day Parade in downtown Lawrence. The parade will begin at 11 a.m.
LyonsHeadquarters and Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery, will provide a military humvee for the Veterans Day parade in downtown Lyons, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
OttawaSoldiers and equipment of the 250th Forward Support Company will support the Ottawa Veterans Day Parade on Main Street at 10:45 a.m.
TopekaThe 190th Air Refueling Wing, Kansas Air National Guard, will conduct a KC-135 Stratotanker flyover of the Sunflower Salute Veterans Day Parade. Maj. Jason Davee, deputy state surgeon for the Kansas Army National Guard, will be co emcee for the event. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. starting at 10th and Kansas Ave.
TopekaVeterans Day Concert by the 35th Infantry Division Band. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in White Concert Hall, Washburn University, 1700 SW Jewell Ave. During the concert, Command Sgt. Maj. James Fenton will read Duty, Honor, Country, a presentation based on a speech by Gen. Douglas MacArthur.
WichitaSoldiers and equipment of the 170th Support Maintenance Company will support the Wichita Veterans Day Parade beginning at Central and Main Streets at 11 a.m.Events scheduled for Nov. 10
WestphaliaSoldiers of the 250th Forward Support Company will provide a color guard for the unveiling of the citys new veterans memorial at 12:30 p.m.

CliftonMaster Sgt. Michael Ashurt, 184th Wing, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day Parade and ceremony, beginning at 2 p.m. on Main Street.
Conway SpringsThe 184th Wing Honor Guard will post the colors and perform a traditional flag-folding ceremony at the 5th annual Veterans Day event at the St. Joseph Catholic School, 218 N 5th St. The event begins at 10:30 a.m.
El DoradoLt. Col. Craig Cooper, 127th Cyber Operations Squadron, will be the keynote speaker for the El Dorado VFW Veterans Day ceremony. The ceremony will take place at 211 N. Main St., beginning at 10 a.m. The 226th Engineer Company will be participating in the Veterans Day parade.
EmporiaAirmen of the 190th Air Refueling Wing will provide a color guard for the citys 66th annual Veterans Day Parade. The parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. in downtown Emporia.
FrankfortLt. Col. Jeremy Brandt will be the guest speaker at a Veterans Day program at Frankfort Schools, 604 N. Kansas Ave. The program will begin at 9 a.m.
Garden PlainMaj. Brian Custer will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at Garden Plain Elementary and Middle School, 700 N. Section Line Rd., beginning at 8:30 a.m.
GarnettMaj. Benjamin Gruver will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at Anderson County High School, 1100 Kansas Highway 31, hosted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6397. There ceremony will start at 10 a.m.
HutchinsonCommand Sgt. Maj. Darrian Campbell, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day event hosted by VFW Post 1361, 328 N. Van Buren. The event starts at 11 a.m. The battery will also be providing a military vehicle for static display at Holy Cross Catholic School, 2633 Independence Rd., from 10-11:30 a.m. in support of the schools Veterans Day program.
LindsborgMaster Sgt. Doug Reed, 184th Force Support Squadron, will be the keynote speaker for the Smoky Valley High School Veterans Day program. The program will begin at 1 p.m.
LyonsLt. Col. James Bilby will be the keynote speaker for the Lyons Veterans Day ceremony. The ceremony will take place at 601 E. American Rd., beginning at 10 a.m.
Medicine LodgeThe 1161st Forward Support Company will assist in a color guard ceremony at Medicine Lodge High School basketball game, 400 W Eldorado Ave. at 1 p.m.
MerriamLt. Col. Molly Gillock will be the guest speaker for the Johnson County Veterans Day ceremony recognizing female veterans. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. in Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch Road.
MulvaneMembers of the 184th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group will be speaking to students at Mulvane Grade School, 411 Louis Drive, from 8 a.m. - noon.
OlatheSoldiers of the 169th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion will be supporting two events. Maj. Dustin Nash and Staff Sgt. Brian Dear will be guest speakers for a Veterans Day event at Forest View Elementary School, 12567 S. Canyon Drive, at 9 a.m. Sgt. 1st Class Jennifer Breuninger and Sgt. Maggie Brown will speak at an event at Central Elementary School, 305 E. Cedar St., at 9 a.m.
Pratt The 1161st Forward Support Company will assist in a color guard ceremony at Pratt Community College basketball game, 348 NE State Rd., beginning at 7 p.m.
SalinaAn instructor and students from the Regional Training Site Maintenance, 235th Regiment will provide a flag detail and cannon salute during a flag-raising at Salina Area Technical College, 2562 Centennial Road. The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m.
SalinaMaj. Scott Blechle, 184th Wing, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony in Sunset Park, 700 Sunset Drive, beginning at 11 a.m.
TopekaChief Master Sgt. Troy Abel, 190th Air Refueling Wing, will be the keynote speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at the Great Overland Station, 701 N. Kansas Ave. The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m.
Webb City, MissouriMaj. Gen. Will Blaylock, 35th Infantry Division, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day assembly at Webb City High School, 621 N Madison St. The assembly will begin at 1 p.m.
WichitaThe 184th Wing Honor Guard will present the colors and perform a ceremonial flag folding for the annual Veterans Day Assembly at St. Joseph Catholic School at 2 p.m.
WichitaThe 184th Wing Honor Guard will perform reveille for the annual Veterans Day ceremony at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital at 9 a.m.
WichitaThe 184th Wing Honor Guard will perform a ceremonial flag folding for the Veterans Day assembly at St. Peter Catholic School at 9 a.m.
Events scheduled for Nov. 12
OlatheSgt. 1st Class Christopher Adair and Sgt. Maggie Brown, 169th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, will be guest speakers at Prairie Trail Middle School, 21600 W. 107th St. at 9:45 a.m. They will also address students at Havencroft Elementary School. 1700 E. Sheridan St., beginning at 1:30 p.m.
WichitaThe 134th Air Control Squadron will be supporting a Veterans Day event at Woodland Elementary School, 1705 N. Salina Ave., from 8 a.m. - noon. The unit will bring a humvee and a 5-ton troop vehicle for the classes and faculty to tour and ask questions. They also conduct a fun version of PT for the students as the school is a Health and Wellness Magnet school. The 184th Wing Honor Guard will be participating in a morning assembly honoring past and present veterans from the families of the students and staff at the school.
Events scheduled for Nov. 14
Emporia Command Sgt. Maj. Steve Harmon will be the guest speaker for an All Veterans Social sponsored by the Center for Student Involvement. His topic will be Challenges and Opportunities of todays National Guard Soldier. The event will begin with a social hour at 6 p.m. in Sauder Alumni Center, 1500 Highland St., on the Emporia State University campus.
Gridley The Kansas National Guard Funeral Honors Team will be supporting a ceremony at Southern Coffey County Middle School, 600 Stuckey St. with the posting of the Soldiers Cross and a wreath-laying ceremony. The event starts at 10 a.m.
