Retired Chief Warrant Officer 4 Jack H. Newbold

Retired Chief Warrant Officer 4 Jack H. Newbold, 83, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019. He was born Dec. 20, 1935, in Edmond, Kansas, the son of William T. and Ruth (Moore) Newbold. He was a graduate of Edmond High School. He was drafted on Sept. 25, 1958, into the U.S. Army and then transferred into the Kansas Army National Guard, where he served for 37 years before retiring. He was a member and treasurer of Highland Heights Christian Church and most recently a member of West Side Christian Church, Topeka. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and Jaycees in Norton and American Legion Capital Post No. 1 in Topeka. Jack married Dorothy Louise Henry June 16, 1957, in Norton. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Ronald (Teri) Newbold, Palm Bay, Florida, and Darin Newbold, Plano, Texas; four granddaughters, Jacquelyn, Jayden, Marissa and Savannah; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eva Mae Jurey; a stepbrother, Leland Dwinell; and a stepsister, Letha Mesmer. Jack enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. He also enjoyed working on automobiles in his spare time, collecting pens and pencil sets. Honoring his request, cremation is planned. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 29, at West Side Christian Church, 432 SW Lindenwood Ave, Topeka, KS 66606. A graveside service with military honors conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Side Christian Church or to Great Lakes Caring Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St Ste. 100, Topeka, KS 66614.
