Larry Heim

Retired Chief Warrant Officer 4 Larry Heim was born in Goessel, Kansas, May 12, 1944, the son of Andrew and Edna (Moddelmog) Heim and brother to Jerry Heim. He graduated from Canton High School in 1962. June 20, 1965, began a 53-year marriage to Lana Rassmussen. They were married at the Methodist Church in Canton. This union was blessed with two children, Loren and LeeAnn. Larry served his country in the Kansas Army National Guard for 38 years, six months, and 12 days before retiring as a chief warrant officer 4 Jan. 1, 2003. He began his military career as a mechanic at the National Guard Armory in Salina, working up to an AST. He later moved to Iola with his family and began working as a shop chief, working through the ranks to warrant officer. After living in Humboldt for 18 years, he moved back to Canton with his wife to take up the operation of the family farm. Farming was a part of his life that he enjoyed until 2017. Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed hunting a variety of game across Kansas. He also enjoyed competing in Bass Club fishing tournaments and taking his boat out on the lake. Larry is a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Canton. Baptized June 4, 1944, and confirmed March 30, 1958, both with this congregation. He has served on the Board of Stewards. Larry went to his Lord on May 5, 2019, in his home in Canton. He is survived by his wife Lana, daughter LeeAnn and grandson Cody Daniels. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Edna, brother Jerry, his son Loren and grandson Levi Daniels. The family would like to express their gratitude for the condolences, kind gestures, thoughts and prayers during the illness and passing of Larry. Larry will be interned in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Funeral services are as follows: Visitation is Wednesday, May 8, from 5to 7 p.m. at Olsen's Funeral Home 139 N. Main, Canton.
