Kansas National Guard supports Veterans Day events

Soldiers and units of the Kansas National Guard will be supporting a number of Veterans Day events across the state. Events scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 7 Kansas City, Missouri -- Lt. Col. Brian Budden, commander of the 190th Air Refueling Wing Maintenance Squadron, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at the Federal Aviation Administration office, 901 Locust St., beginning at 1 p.m. Events scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 8 Cherokee -- Maj. Brian Custer, administrative officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Company 891st Engineer Battalion, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at Southeast High School, 126 West Highway 400, beginning at 9 a.m. Haviland Capt. Eric Johnson with three Soldiers from Battery A, 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery, will bring a humvee and one military truck to the Haviland Schools Veterans Day Appreciation event, 400 N. Topeka, beginning at 11 a.m. Overland Park Soldiers of the Kansas National Guard will have a Black Hawk helicopter from the 1st Battalion, 108th Aviation and other military equipment from other units on display beginning at 11 a.m. as part of the Sprint Veterans Day Celebration on the Sprint campus, 117th and Nall. Winchester Maj. Matthew Nordquist, administrative officer, 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at Jefferson County North High School, 302 5th Street, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Events scheduled for Friday, Nov. 9 Abilene -- Col. Tony Divish, commander of the 635th Regional Support Group, will be the guest speaker at a Veterans Day celebration at St. Andrews Catholic School, 301 S. Buckeye Avenue. The celebration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Caldwell - Capt. Keith Marshall, 184th Intelligence Wing, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day assembly at Caldwell High School, 31 N Osage St. The ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. Conway Springs - Master Sgt. Chris Schulte, Staff Sgt. Patrick Ast, and other members of the 134th Air Control Squadron, 184th Intelligence Wing, will participate in a Veterans Day assembly at St. Joseph Elementary, 218 N 5th St. Military vehicles will be on display, and the Airmen will conduct mock physical training tests. Everest -- Sgt. 1st Class David Wellman, 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery, will be a guest speaker at the Everest Middle School Veterans Day event. The event starts at 9 a.m. at the school, 221 South 7th. Fredonia Sgt. 1st Class Brian Blandamer, 226th Engineer Company, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at Fredonia High School, 916 Robinson St. The ceremony starts at 11 a.m. Lecompton Chief Master Sgt. Troy Abel, 190th Air Refueling Wing, will take part in a Veterans Day breakfast and assembly at Perry-Lecompton Middle School, 408 Lecompton Rd. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. and the assembly starts at 9 a.m. McLouth Command Sgt. Maj. Richard Haney, Recruiting and Retention Battalion, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at McLouth School, 217 S. Summit St. Oskaloosa Capt. Lucas Osborn, Company A, 35th Infantry Division, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at Oskaloosa High School, 404 Park St. Overland Park -- Staff Sgt. Dave Glassman, Tech Sgt. Mike Rabe, and Airman Tobais Bortz, 190th Air Refueling Wing, will present the colors and address the students at a Veterans Day assembly at Bentwood Elementary School, 13000 Bond St. The assembly will begin at 2 p.m. Rosalia -- Capt. Benjamin Moore, 891st Engineer Battalion, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day celebration at Rosalia Flint Hills High School, 806 SE Rosalia Rd. the event begins at 10 a.m. Topeka Master Sgt. Jeremy Byers, command historian, Joint Forces Headquarters - Kansas, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day celebration at Randolph Elementary School, 1400 Randolph St., beginning at 10 a.m. Valley Center - Col. Michael Venerdi, commander, 184th Intelligence Wing, will be the guest speaker for the Valley Center Vietnam War Commemorative Program at Valley Center High School, 9600 N Meridian Ave. The program will run from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Yates Center Lt. Col. Lee Norman, M.D., state surgeon, will be the guest speaker at a Veterans Day assembly at Yates Center High School, 105 W. Bell St., The event starts at 10:30 a.m. Wichita - Lt. Col. James Bilby, 184th Operations Support Squadron, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at Larksfield Place Retirement Community, 2727 N Rock Rd., at 9 a.m. Wichita - Master Sgt. Mike Balevre and other members of the 134th Air Control Squadron will participate in a Veterans Day event at Woodland Elementary School, 1705 N Salina Ave., with a 5-ton troop transport vehicle display. The event will include posting of the colors, a flag folding ceremony, tour of military vehicles, and mock physical training tests for students. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Events scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10 Emporia - Soldiers of the Kansas National Guard will support the All Veterans Memorial Services at All Veterans Memorial Park, Emporia, 11 a.m. Chief Master Sgt. Sherry Willard, 184th Regional Support Group, will be the guest speaker for the service. Command Sgt. Maj. Steve Harmon will serve as master of ceremonies. Hiawatha The 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery will cohost the Brown County Veterans Day Dinner with the Homer White American Legion Post 66 at the Hiawatha National Guard armory, 108 1st Street. There will be a short ceremony honoring retired Brig. Gen. Alexander Duckworth at 5 p.m., followed by the dinner at 6 p.m. Merriam Col. Roger Murdock, chief of the Joint Staff, Joint Forces Headquarters Kansas, will be the guest speaker for the Johnson County Veterans Day ceremony recognizing Vietnam War era veterans at Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch Road, beginning at 11 a.m. Topeka Maj. Gen. Vic Braden, commanding general of the 35th Infantry Division, will be the grand marshal for the Sunflower Salute Veterans Parade in downtown Topeka. Parade begins at 11 a.m. Soldiers of the 137th Transportation Company will also take part in the parade, driving a Palletized Loading System vehicle. Wichita - Members of the 184th Intelligence Wing will be walking in the Veterans Day Parade and Remembrance Day event at 11 a.m. The parade starts at Central and Main, and ends at WaterWalk Commons with an award ceremony and an afternoon full of activities including food trucks, live music, children's crafts, and an interactive museum. Closing ceremony will take place there at 1:45 p.m. Events scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 11 Clifton Maj. Murl Riedel, 130th Field Artillery Battalion, and Sgt. 1st Class Marc Beswick, readiness noncommissioned officer, 1st Battalion, 161st Field Artillery, will take part in the Veterans Day parade and ceremony beginning at 2 p.m. on Main Street. Lawrence -- Soldiers of the 137th Transportation Company will drive a Palletized Loading System vehicle in a Veterans Day parade in downtown Lawrence, beginning at 11 a.m. Airmen of the 190th Air refueling Wing will also conduct a flyover of the parade in a KC-135 Stratotanker. Topeka Col. Shayna Holman, Human Resources Officer, Headquarters-Kansas Air National Guard, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day event at South Knollwood Baptist Church, 1813 SW 29th St., beginning at 10:30 a.m. Topeka Col. Roger Murdock, chief of the Joint Staff, Joint Forces Headquarters Kansas, will be the guest speaker for a World War I Remembrance Ceremony at Mount Hope Cemetery, 17th and Fairlawn, in Topeka, beginning at 11 a.m. Topeka Maj. Janet Dial, 190th Air Refueling Wing, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at American Legion Post 440, 3029 NW Highway 24. The ceremony will start at 11 a.m. Topeka Maj. Paul Cope, Joint Forces Headquarters Kansas, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day ceremony at the Great Overland Station, 701 N Kansas Ave., starting at 2 p.m. Wichita Maj. Brett Jenlink, 184th Medical Group, will be participating in a Veterans Breakfast at Wesley Medical Center, 550 N. Hillside St., at 7 a.m. Wichita - Senior Airman Raymond Davis, 184th Intelligence Wing, will sing the national anthem and the 184th Intelligence Wing Honor Guard will present the colors at the Wichita State University women's volleyball match at Charles Koch Arena, 21st and Hillside, Wichita State University, at 11 a.m. Members of the 134th Air Control Squadron will also provide a military vehicle static display outside the arena. Wichita - Senior Master Sgt. Jason McAndrews, 184th Force Support Squadron, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day Celebration at Park West Plaza Retirement Community, 505 N Maize Rd., at 2 p.m. He will speak, present U.S. flag pins to the veterans at the ceremony, and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Events scheduled for Monday, Nov. 12 Andover 1st Lt. Courtney Tennis, Master Sgt. Kristy Rubio and Sgt. Clayton Rubio will take part in a Veterans Day ceremony at Sunflower Elementary School, 616 E. Douglas, at approximately 8:55 a.m. Alma -- Master Sgt. Crystal Falk, 190th Air Refueling Wing, will take part in the Veterans Day Service at St. John Lutheran School, 218 W. 2nd St., beginning at 10:30 a.m. Derby - Capt. Darral Garner, 184th Comptroller Flight, will participate in the Derby-St. Mary's Veterans Day Prayer Service at St. Mary's School, 2306 Meadowlark Blvd., at 10 a.m. Kansas City, Missouri Col. Christopher Mickan, chief of staff, 35th Infantry Division, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day celebration at St. Michaels Veterans Center, 3838 Chelsea. The event starts at 9 a.m. Lindsborg -- Master Sgt. Ben Fulton, 190th Air Refueling Wing, will be the speaking to students at a Veterans Day event at Soderstrom Elementary School, 227 N. Washington, at 1:30 p.m. Pratt Col. Thomas Burke, commander of the 130th Field Artillery Brigade, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day celebration at the Pratt All Veterans Memorial. The event starts at 2 p.m. Rose Hill - Lt. Col. James Bilby, Chief Master Sgt. Homer King, Master Sgt. Ross Chappell, and other 184th Intelligence Wing Airmen will participate in a Veterans Day Assembly at Rose Hill High School, 710 S Rose Hill Rd., at 8 a.m. and visit with small groups of students throughout the morning. Salina -- Students and staff of the Regional Training Site - Maintenance will conduct the third annual Veterans Day flag raising ceremony at Salina Area Technical College, 2562 Centennial Road, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Members of the 284th Air Support Operations Squadron will also take part in the event. Topeka Chief Master Sgt. Von Burns, wing command chief, 190th Air Refueling Wing, will be the guest speaker for a Veterans Day event at Highland Park High School, 2424 SE California Ave. The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. Udall - Master Sgt. Kirsten Click and members of the 184th Communications Flight will be speaking to school children throughout the day at Udall Elementary School, 308 W. 3rd St Events scheduled for Friday, Nov. 12 Kansas City, Kansas Lt. Col. Lee Norman, M.D., state surgeon, will be a guest lecturer for the KU Leadership Series. Normans lecture, Deployment Diary, will discuss his experiences during a recent deployment to the Middle East. The event will take place at the Medical Education Bldg. auditorium, 39th and Rainbow Blvd., beginning at noon
