LeRoy Butler Jr.

LeRoy Butler Jr., 67, of Topeka, passed away at his home May 27, 2018. LeRoy was born on December 3, 1950, son of Leroy Butler Sr. and Lucille Washington Butler. LeRoy served in the Army, Air National Guard for 20 years, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Air Compliance Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and Senior Aircraft Crewman Badge. He also served in the United States Marine Corps, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Rifle Marksmanship Badge. He worked in law enforcement and also for the state of Kansas. He married Rita Ludlum Butler in Kansas City, Kansas,April 6, 1983, LeRoy loved fishing, it was his passion. He also loved his family and friends as well as gatherings with plenty of good food. LeRoy was preceded in death by both of his parents and his sister, Betty McDaniels. He is survived by his wife Rita, his daughter Wendy Butler, son Nick Butler and his fiance Kelli Bliven and son Corey Butler; sisters, Lolita Jackson and Delores Butler both of Kansas City, Kansas; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a host of extended family. The family will receive friends Friday, June 1,from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brennan Mathena Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 2 at Brennan Mathena Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. followed by military graveside service at Prairie Home Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice House and sent in the care of Brennan Mathena Funeral Home.
