MAJ (R) Jimmy Max Plummer

Sept. 14, 2017 | By mlucht
MAJ (R) Jimmy Max Plummer, 72, of Hutchinson, died September 14, 2017, in Hutchinson. Jim was born in Hays, January 27, 1945, to Ben Ellis Plummer Jr. and Ellen Elizabeth (Wilson) Plummer during the last months of World War II while Ben was deployed with the U.S. Army in India. Jim lived the great majority of his life in Kansas. He died peacefully after a prolonged battle with heart disease, surrounded by family and loved ones. After attending Plainville High School, Jim earned a bachelor's degree from Fort Hays State University and a master's degree from Pepperdine University. He served as an enlisted man in the U.S. Marine Corps and subsequently entered the Kansas National Guard, where he rose through the ranks and achieved the level of Major before he retired. Jim's long professional career included service to Cargill and the U.S. Post Office. Concurrently, he and his wife, Kathy, built a successful family business in residential real estate leasing, one of the largest rental housing providers in Hutchinson. Jim was extremely proud of his family and expressed his gusto for life through a variety of interests. He enjoyed riding motorcycles with his sons, coaching their YMCA football teams and attending their sporting events, traveling with Kathy, and playing poker tournaments in his later years. He was a loyal friend and legendary storyteller. But above all, with a twinkle in his eyes, Jim would gleefully tell anyone listening that his best decision in life was to marry Kathy Meyers. The couple celebrated their 51st anniversary earlier this year. Jim's siblings credit Kathy as the best influence in his life and the heart of their family. Jim is survived by: his wife, Kathy; their sons, Douglas and Dane; sisters Susan Deweese and Leann Bethel; brothers, Mitty Plummer and John Deweese; grandchildren, Ashlee and Lexington Plummer; and great-granddaughters, Penelope, Alyssa, Olivia, and Mia. Jim also leaves behind many friends and others whose lives he touched.
