Kansas National Guard entering into educational partnership with Salina Area Technical College

Sept. 14, 2017 | By slarson

The Kansas National Guards Regional Training Institute and Salina Area Technical College are entering into an agreement that will allow Kansas Guardsmen to earn dual credits toward a technical associate degree. Maj. Gen. Lee Tafanelli, the adjutant general, and Brig. Gen. Anthony Mohatt, commander of the Kansas Army National Guard, will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with officials from Salina Tech on Friday, Sept. 15, 11 a.m. at the KSARNG Regional Training Site Maintenance, 2750 Scanlan Avenue, Salina. "The Kansas National Guard is committed to forming partnerships across Kansas through educational institutions so that we can better serve those who wish to join the Kansas National Guard and those who are already serving," said Tafanelli. This is a relationship that allows two fine organizations to strengthen the educational options they offer to the citizens of Kansas, said Mohatt. This is just the beginning of great things that will come from this growing relationship. The goal of the Synchronous Training and Academic Credit program is to streamline the educational experience for service members, concurrently providing a portion of their military training and academic credit, thus enabling them to progress toward an associates degree while still serving. Salina Techs Credit for Prior Learning policy requires:

  • All students seeking credit for prior learning must be enrolled at Salina Area Technical College and have declared an objective that is either an Associate of Applied Science or Technical Certificate.
  • Students must complete at least 12 credit hours at Salina Area Technical College with a cumulative 2.0 GPA before Credit for Prior Learning will be awarded.
  • Students must meet all requirements for graduation which include 15 credit hours to be taken at SATC.

STAC operates in tandem with the KSRTI training schedule and, at this time is fully aligned with the Allied Trades Specialist course with development of additional credit for existing RTI and RTS-M training in process.
