Retired Maj. Craig Allan Stewart

Retired Maj. Craig Allan Stewart, who resided near Charleston, Arkansas, died Jan. 9, 2021, at his home. He was born Dec. 11, 1960, in Fort Benning, Georgia, to Earl Joseph Stewart and Shirley May (Hawkins) Stewart. He was 60 years old. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Joseph Stewart; and a brother, Charles “Chuck” Joseph Stewart.

Craig served in the U.S. Army for four years, and retired as a major after 22 years in the Kansas Army National Guard, serving with the 1st Battalion. 127th Field Artillery. He worked in sales for Crain Industries in Fort Smith, Arkansas, for several years and later on for Experian.

Craig was an avid golfer and bowler. He was a faithful deacon, adult Sunday School teacher, and member of Hosanna Free Will Baptist Church. He loved his family very much and he will be missed by everyone who knew him.

A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Randy Moore.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kay (Humerickhouse) Stewart; a daughter, Katie Holloway and husband Mark of Charleston; two sons, Matt Stewart and wife Rachel of Charleston, and Erick Stewart of Charleston; his mother, Shirley Stewart of Ottawa, Kansas; a sister, Debbie Jenkins and husband Mark of Waverly, Kansas; a brother, Chris Stewart and wife Amy of Richmond, Kansas; and grandchildren McKenna, Daeton, Maelee, and Kade.

Honorary pallbearers are Chris Stewart, Mark Jenkins, Ron Daugharthy, Bob Humerickhouse, Donnie Humerickhouse, and Steve Brady.

Family visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, at the funeral home. Due to the rise of COVID-19 cases, please have on a mask before entering the funeral home. Also, please wear a mask at Fort Smith National Cemetery.
