Bickley B. Holmes

Bickley B. Holmes, 84, Topeka, passed away peacefully with all his girls around him Sept. 30, 2021, at the Alma Manor Nursing Center.
He was born Sept. 12, 1937, in Lebanon, Virginia, the son of Denny B. Holmes and Velma "Cass" Holmes Hartzler.
Bick lived most of his life in Topeka and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1956. In 1976, he graduated from Washburn University with a Bachelor of Science and Arts degree.
He served in the Kansas National Guard for eight years with rank of specialist 4th class.
Bick was proud to serve as an Emergency Preparedness Planner 1 for the state of Kansas, retiring in 1999.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Martha A. (Myers) Holmes; daughter Cynthia Renee Holmes; foster daughter Jessica L. Fleer (Jessica R.) all of Topeka; foster granddaughter Ashley (Cody) Hunt, Mayetta; brothers Cooper Bart Holmes, Emporia, and Darl K. Holmes, Topeka; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Lynn Holmes; mother and step-father, Velma "Cass” and Sherman Hartzler; father Denny B. Holmes; foster-daughter Trisha Fleer; and sister Carman Morstsorf.
He loved to do ink drawings and work with ceramics. He also donated plasma at the Topeka Blood Bank every Friday for many, many years, earning special recognition featured in the Topeka Capital Journal.
A celebration of life gathering will be from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 16, 2021, at Dove Cremations & Funerals Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave, Topeka.
