Al Straub

Al Straub, 69, died March 10, 2021, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born February 21, 1952, in Wamego, Kansas, the son of Otto J. and Arleen (Immenschuh) Straub.

Al grew up in Clay Center, graduating from Clay County Community High School in 1972. He served in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1972-1993.

He married Debra Dunn on June 9, 1973, and they later divorced. Al then married Janice Kahrs April 28, 1990, and she preceded him in death June 5, 2012.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Clay County Highway Department for 39 years, retiring in 2019 and he also worked part time at Pamida and Kiers. Al never knew a stranger and greeted everyone with a smile and a piece of candy.

He was a member of the American Legion, Eagles Lodge and Elks Lodge. He is preceded in death by his parents, great-grandson, Brillyn; three sisters, Barbara Straub, Philomena Straub and Louise Hoffsett; and three brothers, Raphael, Delafield, and Arthur.

Survivors include his son, Darin (Brandi) Straub of Canfield, Ohio; daughters Heather (Roger Adams) Straub of Clay Center and Sarah (Keeton Ott) Straub of Wakefield, Kansas; 13 grandchildren, Madison, Kimberlin, Bryn, Ashley, Briana, Kandice, Brayden, Koy, Danner, Stella, Kieson, Killian and Atticus; two great-grandchildren, Kolt and Kloie; brothers Otto (Jan) Straub of Clay Center and Tony (Barbara) Straub of Clay Center; sisters Lorene Wille of Manhattan and Dorothy (Dick) Lyons of Blue Springs, Missouri.

Funeral Services will take place Thursday, March 18, at 1:30 p.m. at the Clay Center United Methodist Church Family Life Center.

Private Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Visitation is Wednesday, March 17, 2021, from 3-8 p.m. at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home.
