Joseph Dune "JD" Ferguson

Retired Master Sgt. Joseph Dune "JD" Ferguson, 62, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020, at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa.

JD was born January 19, 1958, in Ottawa, the son of James A. and Donna L. (Barber) Ferguson.

He was a lifelong Ottawa resident and graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1976. He also attended Ottawa University.

JD served 22 years in the Army National Guard from 1976 to 1998. He was very proud of his work in the National Operation Center in Washington D.C. where he worked from the early 1990s until his retirement in 1998. He is the father of Spc. Chris Ferguson, 250th Forward Support Company.

He was an active member of Hope Anthem Church, Ottawa, serving on the prayer and security team. JD operated the Worldwide Ministries Online Prayer Request Facebook Page.

JD was a volunteer chaplain at Ransom Memorial Hospital, now known as AdventHealth Ottawa, from January 2019 until March 2020. He enjoyed studying the ministry and serving others. He also enjoyed canning, fishing, cutting wood with a chainsaw, and operating a skid loader known as the machine. Above all, JD loved his family and the time they spent together.

He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Ferguson and an infant grandson, Silas Ellis Ferguson.

Survivors include his mother Donna Ferguson of Ottawa; two sons, Chris (Emily) Ferguson of Baldwin City, and George Bo (Jennifer) Ferguson of Richmond; three siblings, Jim Ferguson of Paola, Jerry Ferguson of Rantoul, and Diane (Randy) Lines of Lincoln, Missouri; six grandchildren, Kaity Ferguson, Mazie Ferguson, and Jessie Ferguson all of Baldwin City, and Owen Ferguson, Adley Ferguson, and Emersyn Ferguson all of Richmond.
