Jamie Lee Jones, age 47, of Moran, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019, at his home. Jones was born Sept. 2, 1971, in Iola, Kansas, and spent his childhood years in La Harpe. He attended elementary school in La Harpe and high school in Iola. He joined the Kansas Army National Guard on the split option during his junior year of high school. That summer, he headed to Boot Camp at Fort Bliss, Texas, and was married that fall. In 2004, he deployed with the 891st Engineer Battalion for a 12-month tour in Iraq, where he serviced heavy equipment heading in and coming out of Baghdad. Throughout his military career, Jones was able to travel to Panama, Belize, Germany, and Iraq. During his civilian careers, Jones worked as a forge operator, in brake production, in the oil fields as a pulling unit operator, heavy equipment operator, and maintenance department foreman. After serving 23 years with the Army National Guard, he accepted a position with AECOM as head of mechanics operations for the U.S. embassy. In 2014, Jones returned home and took a position with Allen County Public Works as a road and bridge foreman. Jones loved to be outside. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved working on many projects around his farm and he loved to cook. He was known as very kind and helpful man. Jones was preceded in death by one son Colton Jones; his father Jim; and grandparents Kenneth and Rosalee Harrison. Jones is survived by his wife Debbie; daughters Dezera Jones and fiance Gregory Eckhoff of Kansas City, Kansas; and Destiny Jones and fiance Tanner Odell of Moran, Kansas; his mother Ellen Harrison of Iola, Kansas; two sisters, Michelle Narvaez and husband Ted of Iola, Kansas and Morgan Jones of Salina, Kansas; two brothers, Jimmy Jones of Mascoutah, Illinois, and Tom Jones of Salina, Kansas; three grandchildren, Madison Hamlin, Dean Driskel, and Oliver Helman; and many other relatives. A visitation will be held Wednesday, March 27, from 6-8 p.m. at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 28, at 10 a.m. at the Hope Chapel Assembly of God, 1216 4600th St, Moran. Burial will follow with military honors in the Moran Cemetery.
