Retired Master Sgt. Mike Prebula passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at his home. He was born to Josephine Peele Prebula and Andrew P. Prebula, Jr. Nov. 3, 1951, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Michael was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Janet Moore Prebula, and second wife, Sheila Perkins Prebula. He is survived by his son, Nicholas Prebula and his wife Vickie, and his grandsons Douglas and Mikey Prebula of Mulvane, Kansas; and his siblings, Mary Prebula of Atlanta, Georgia; and George Prebula and his wife Pamela of Hillsborough, North Carolina; and many extended family. Prebula was a decorated and patriotic soldier. He served eight years in the U.S. Navy as a Navy diver, most memorably serving as a plank member on the USS Hewitt out of San Diego, California. Prebula then served his country with the Kansas Army National Guard as a recruiter in Kansas. The Navy awarded him the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Medal. He received the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), Navy Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Scuba Diver Badge, United Stated Navy Parachute Insignia, US Army Gold Recruiter Badge, Career Counselor Badge. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 8, 2 pm, at Affinity All Faiths Mortuary, 2850 S. Seneca St., Wichita. A Gathering of Family and Friends will follow at 4 p.m. at the American Legion Post 136, 410 SE Louis, Mulvane.
