By slarson
Retired Sgt. Richard Bo Eldon Freel, Jr, 42, of Coffeyville, Kansas entered into eternal rest after injuries sustained during an auto accident on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.
Bo was born on July 5, 1975, in Coffeyville, Kansas, to Richard E. Freel, Sr. and Janet (Jennings) Freel. He grew up in Labette County where he was a talented athlete participating in football and wrestling before graduating from Labette County High School. He attended Fairmount College in West Virginia.
Bo enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1993, seeing service in Liberia, Bosnia and Haiti. He achieved the rank of sergeant. After six years of service, Bo moved to Kansas where he continued to serve his country in the National Guard for another 14 years. During that time, he was deployed to Iraq and trained in Germany. He retired from the National Guard in January 2014.
Bo was a member of the Dearing Christian Church; he was a lifetime member of the VFW. He coached several youth sports throughout Coffeyville and Independence. Bo had fulfilled many of his dreams including starting his own business RKD Tire and Auto located on at 700 NE Street. He enjoyed working out and lifting weights, fishing, cooking and barbequing. But more than anything he loved the time he spent surrounded by children, especially his own.
Bo is survived by his father Richard Freel, Sr. and wife, Pat of Coffeyville; mother Janet Freel of Coffeyville; children, Kayla Freel of Independence, Kansas, Damon Freel of Coffeyville; sister, Erica Freel of Coffeyville; aunts, Stella Stowe and husband, Harley of Oregon, Jerrie Ann Lowrance and husband, Jerry of Coffeyville; many cousins and great friends to remember his kindness.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparent, P.H. and Birdie Freel and by his maternal grandparents, Jerald and Marie Jennings.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Dearing Christian Church in Dearing, Kansas, with Associate Pastor J.B. Brown officiating. Burial will follow Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Fort Scott National Cemetery, 900 E National Ave, Fort Scott, KS 66701 with Military Honors provided by Fort Scott National Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas. Family will greet friends Monday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
