SGT. Casey Cummings

Casey was with Company C, 2nd Battalion, 137th Infantry Casey Cummings passed away from a tragic accident at home onSaturday, September 9th, at the age of 39. He was born on September 3, 1978 in Wichita, KS to Curtis and Cathy Cummings. Casey graduated from Southeast HS in 1996. He joined the Army National Guard in 2004, quickly rising to the rank of E5 Sergeant. He served his country through the art of healing as a dedicated Combat Medic, assisting in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and training continually with the guard before being honorably discharged in 2012. Casey dedicated his life to the service of others, always helping and never hesitating. He worked in the E.R. at St. Francis Hospital while he earned his Bachelors in Nursing from WSU. After graduating, he continued working for St. Francis Hospital as a critical care nurse in the Trauma Surgical Intensive Care Unit. He recently earned his Masters of Nurse Anesthesia at Newman University and was planning to begin a career with AACK in Salina, KS. He married the love of his life, Bobby Rae Stuckert on October 9, 2015. Casey had many plans and dreams for the future and was the glue for his family. He achieved so much in his short life, but he considered his greatest accomplishment and was most proud of raising his beautiful daughter, Caitlin. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, son-in-law, uncle, and friend to many and will be missed beyond measure. His infectious laugh, humor, caring nature and service for others will never be forgotten. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his Uncle Bruce Cummings. He is survived by his wife, Bobby Rae, his daughter Caitlin Marie, his father Curtis, mother Cathy, brothers Chris, Cory (Kristi), Cody, in-laws Terry and Gina Marx, sister-in-law Margo Stuckert (Justin), brother-in-law John Henry Marx, Uncle Greg Cummings, Aunts Jill Cummings (Meredith), Laurie Cox, Cindy Helms (Gene), Grandmother Lila "Nana" Mewhinney, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends whom he loved dearly. A viewing will be held at Culbertson-Smith Mortuary, 115 S. Seneca,Thursday, September 14 from 1-8pm, with family present5-8pm.Viewing will continueFriday September 15th, from9am-12pm.Cremation will follow laterFriday. A Memorial Service will be at St. John's Chapel at11amSaturday, September 16th, in Sacred Heart Hall at Newman University, 3100 McCormick. Graveside service with military honors will follow immediately afterwards and inurnment at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, 1824 N. Oliver.
