18-064 Kansas National Guard to conduct security exercise June 20

People driving past the Kansas National Guard complex on Topeka Blvd. in Topeka may notice some unusual activity the morning of Wednesday, June 20. However, there will be no need for alarm.

Security personnel from the Kansas National Guard will be working with soldiers of the 35th Military Police Company and local law enforcement officers to conduct a security exercise on the compound.

“This exercise is critical to a comprehensive security program as it assesses our current capabilities and provides critical training for our security personnel,” said Richard Lewallen, Kansas National Guard Antiterrorism Program manager.

Visitors to the complex will experience delays entering and exiting the compound and other restrictions while on the facility. The areas where the exercise will take place will be clearly marked.

With the exception of brief periods of traffic congestion on roads adjacent to the entry gates, this exercise will not affect the surrounding community.
