Spc. Khamis A. Naser, 24, Topeka, a member of the Kansas Army National Guards 130th Field Artillery Brigade, was called home to Gods loving arms for lasting protection early in the morning of July 31, 2018. No longer able to fight off his demons, Khamis couldnt be protected by his Nana or his adoptive parents any longer. He became a member of the 22. Khamis was born January 29, 1994 in Spring, Texas. He moved between Olpe, Emporia and Pomona, Kansas, during his early years before finally settling with his Nana in Pomona, Kansas, for his early teen years. It was during his junior year in high school that Khamis adopted his current family. For seven years he was loved, cherished and treated as our own. Not of our flesh and blood, but definitely our son. Khamis was a 2012 graduate of West Franklin High School where he put forth maximum effort on the football field. Due to this effort, Khamis was recruited by and became a Greyhound at Fort Scott Community College. After his freshman season, Khamis decided to forgo another year of football to walk-on as a yell leader at Garden City Community College. In October 2013, Khamis followed in his adoptive Fathers footsteps and became Private Naser upon his enlistment in to the Kansas Army National Guard as a geospatial engineer. Khamis attended Basic Combat Training and his Advanced Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Just prior to his passing, Khamis was employed in the Kansas Army National Guard Operations and Training Section as a budget analyst. Khamis is survived by his two families, his biological family and his adoptive family. His biological survivors include his beloved Nana, Mrs. Helen Johnson of Ottawa, Kansas; Aunt Penny (Steve) Sommer of Greeley, Kansas; and Uncle Randy (Rose) Johnson of Osawatomie, Kansas; and many, many cousins. He was preceded in death by his Papa, Harlan Larry Johnson and his Uncle Shawn Johnson. His adoptive survivors include his parents, retired Command Sgt. Maj. Jim and Susan Crosby of Council Grove, Kansas; one brother, Jim (Jasmine) Crosby of Manhattan, Kansas; and four sisters, Jennifer (Mike) Smith of Midland, Michigan; Bailey Crosby of Raytown, Missouri; Taylor Crosby of White City, Kansas; and Shealee Crosby of Council Grove, Kansas; Aunt retired Lt. Col. Kathi McDiffett of Washington, D.C.; Uncle James (John) McDiffett of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Aunt Renee (Paul) Verbeke of Davison, Michigan. He is also survived by a nephew, Michael and a niece, Stella. Visitation will occur on Monday, August 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dengel and Sons Mortuary in Paola, Kansas. A short burial ceremony will be held on Tuesday, August 7 at 11 a.m. at the Osawatomie Cemetery. Chaplain (Maj.) Jeremy Bower, 130th Field Artillery Brigade chaplain, will conduct the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, gifts or sympathy cards, the family requests that you make memorial donations to the military suicide prevention website, Mission 22 at www.mission22.com so that we can become advocates for the societal and military stigma that behavioral health makes you weak. Youre weaker when you dont ask for help!
